Comparison of Educational, Commercial and Government License VS Campus Licenses
Key takeaways
- The main difference between the Campus license and other available licenses is the number of people who can potentially access the license and how widely it should be available
- Both license types include the same ATLAS.ti features
- Other non-campus licenses available in our shop, excluding Student Licenses, are well suited for teams and departments, while a campus license can provide access to all faculty, staff, and students of an institution.

Who this article is for:
Anyone who needs to decide between a Campus License and other shared licenses (such as Educational, Commercial, and Government Licenses) for ATLAS.ti, including administrators, IT staff, purchasing departments, and users who are unsure which license type best fits their institution or team.
What’s the difference?
If your institution is considering ATLAS.ti, you may be deciding between an Educational, Commercial, or Government License and a Campus License.
- Educational, Commercial, and Government Licenses can be shared with anyone, including people in different universities or countries. You may invite as many users as you wish. Access is controlled by the number of purchased seats, meaning only that many users can use ATLAS.ti at the same time (for example, 10 seats or 50 seats).
- A Campus License makes it possible for the license admin to provide access to a large group of eligible users such as faculty, staff, and/or students of a university or institution. The number of invited users is limited to five times the number of seats. For example, a 500-seat Campus license allows up to 2,500 invited users.
The table below outlines key differences to help you compare both options.
