How do I use Text Search?

Text Search allows you to identify segments of your textual data based on desired search terms. Our Text Search tool also has smart search capabilities to look for synonyms and variations of words that might also match your desired inquiry. By putting all of these search results in one place, you can easily look at the most relevant data and code them easily, regardless of where they exist in your project.

To use Text Search:

  • select the documents or document groups you want ATLAS.ti to search
  • alternatively, you can select codes to narrow your search to quotations that have the desired codes
  • press "Continue"
  • choose between paragraphs, sentences, words, or exact matches depending on the results you want Text Search to return
  • input your desired search term
  • review the menu to the right to include any desired synonyms in your search
  • if desired, press "Add" to include further search terms, using the "AND" or "OR" operators to refine your inquiry
  • if desired, press "Include inflected forms" (e.g., finding inflected forms of the word "run" will return search results including the words "ran," "runs," and "running")
  • if searching for inflected forms, press "Manage Models..." if desired to change the language model for your search
  • press "Show Results"

The tool will return search results based on your search criteria. Pre-existing codes are represented by solid boxes. You can select the desired quotations and click on "Apply Code(s)" to add any desired codes.
