How can I add ATLAS.ti as a trusted application (Windows 10)?

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 2017 introduced a feature entitled “Controlled Folder Access.” When enabled, this feature monitors writing into protected folders. Protected folders are:

The “Controlled Folder Access” feature can cause problems for ATLAS.ti.
Only “trusted” applications are allowed to write into the protected folders, whereas it blocks “untrusted” application from making any changes to the files in the protected folders and from creating new files in the protected folders.
Windows Defender Antivirus analyzes any application and decides if the application is trusted or not. Unfortunately, Windows Defender Antivirus decided that ATLAS.ti is not a “trusted” application-as most other applications.
However, you can add ATLAS.ti to the trusted applications, and you should do so to facilitate your use of it. To so do, follow the steps below:
Make ATLAS.ti a Trusted Application
Open the Windows Settings and select “Update and Security”:
Select “Windows Security.”
Select “Virus and threat protection.”
Click on “Virus and threat protection settings.”
Scroll down to “Controlled Folder Access.”
Click “Manage Controlled folder access.”
Click on “Allow an app through Controlled folder access.”
Click “Add an allowed app.”
This opens a file dialog. Navigate to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Scientific Software\ATLASti.23” and locate the ATLAS.ti executable “Atlasti23.exe” (make sure file extensions are not hidden!).
Select the file “Atlasti23.exe” and click “Open.”
Now ATLAS.ti is a trusted application and is allowed to write into the protected folders, including “C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\Scientific Software\ATLASti.23”
